Mechanical Engineer

Astrophysics Inc. is a leading designer and manufacturer of x-ray security inspection systems. Since 2002, we have dedicated ourselves to ensuring a safer world through ground-breaking, advanced screening technology, while creating a motivated and creative team of Engineers, Sales and Marketing professionals in our offices both in the US and around the world. While more than 85% of our systems are exported overseas, we take pride in manufacturing each one here in the United States. We are an expanding, dynamic and fast-paced company looking for individuals who want to grow with us. We currently have an immediate full-time position opening for a Mechanical Engineer located in City of Industry, California.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for the mechanical design, product improvement and troubleshooting of x-ray systems. The Mechanical Engineer builds prototypes, tests new designs, creates reports, and assists repairs for malfunctioning equipment.


New graduates with Mechanical engineering degree invited to apply.


* Translate customer requirements into detailed designs
* Apply engineering principles into researching, designing, developing, and testing products and systems that are low in cost and reproducible while maintaining high standards of quality
* Work with fabricators to develop product prototypes and methods of tooling needed to produce products
* Resolve engineering problems that surface through a product's development cycle including concerns from customers and operations personnel
* Review all mechanical specifications and other related specifications pertaining to mechanical systems (i.e. electrical and controls)
* Prepare assembly and packaging instructions
* Coordinate walk downs with production personnel so they are familiar with new systems
* Ensure drawings, documentation, and completed projects comply with all internal policies and standards


* B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications; including Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
* Experience with CAD programs, mainly SolidWorks and AutoCAD
