Job Description

The AAMC Curriculum Inventory (CI) program is seeking an intern to help develop national curriculum reports on critical topics in the medical education field; these reports will help medical schools utilize AAMC resources as part of their continuous quality improvement and curriculum renewal efforts. The AAMC CI Intern will collaborate with AAMC staff in medical education, library sciences, data operations, and IT development to create and share these reports.

Education programs, including medical schools, maintain curriculum inventories, or maps, of their curricular programs. These curriculum inventories help schools to visualize their programs as a whole. This can serve multiple functions:

* curriculum leaders can better assess their programs and judge where and how to make changes;
* faculty can see where their teaching fits into the students' learning plan;
* students can see where they've been and where they're going in the curriculum.

Maintaining a curriculum inventory is a Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation standard for medical schools. The AAMC collects curriculum inventories from medical schools so that AAMC can produce reports to help schools benchmark their curriculum, learn about curricular trends and innovations, and plan curricular change. The AAMC Curriculum Inventory (CI) also supports AAMC's role as an advocate for medical schools to legislative and media groups. The AAMC CI reports cover curricular content, structure, delivery, and assessments. Details commonly included in a curriculum inventory are:

* Content taught, including learning objectives at multiple levels (e.g., program, course, event);
* Learning event details, including timing, frequency, instructional approach, and resources;
* Content assessed, including assessment methods;
* Curricular structure, such as number of academic levels and weeks and hours of instruction.

The AAMC CI collaborates with a number of departments within the organization, including staff in medical education, communications, IT development, data management, and library science. The intern will meet and work with representatives from these departments. These opportunities for small-group team work will provide insight about the daily work of a curriculum resource office as well as the principles of medical education curriculum. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to participate in conference calls and written communications with faculty leaders across medical schools. All of this will provide a deeper understanding of medical education and curriculum in general.


* Work with medical education experts to specify and refine curriculum report topics
* Work with library sciences staff to conduct literature reviews on curriculum report topics
* Analyze the latest scholarship related to curriculum topics, and synthesize the literature into summaries that can be shared with medical schools
* Work with data operations staff to design visual charts and graphics related to curriculum reports
* Work with IT Development to design the platform through which reports can be shared with medical schools
* Write communications and marketing materials to announce the creation and availability of new curriculum reports



* Progress toward a bachelor's degree
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent editing/proofreading skills
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively
* Experience with general computing, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, data entry, multiple internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Firefox).


* Progress towards a MD degree
* Experience in data analysis
* Experience in scholarly writing

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
