Job Description

Pharmacy Intern Part-Time (weekends)

Job Summary:

Under the direction of a pharmacist, receives practical training towards becoming a competent pharmacist. The focus of this position will be to provide education to patients and their caregivers regarding prescribed medications. This will include information about the indications for use, as well as potential side effects of the medications. This role will support hospital initiatives to provide ongoing communication about medications to our patients.

Responsibilities:

* Provides drug information and education to patients and their caregivers


* Understands HCAHPS and drives a positive patient experience


* Answers drug related questions and provides resources to the patient


* Reinforces education provided by pharmacists and nurses using teachback


* Collaborates with pharmacists to document patient encounters


* Communicates with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care


* Under pharmacist supervision, reviews and assesses medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug related problems


* Other duties as assigned

Education:

* Currently enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy program and meets education requirements to qualify for intern license in the State of Ohio.

Certifications:

* Current Ohio State Board of Pharmacy Intern License (PH/INT) prior to the start date.

Complexity of Work:

* Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must have effective communication skills, excellent bedside manner, demonstrate courtesy and respect for patients, and be self-motivated to perform duties.

Physical Requirements:

* Typical physical demands include ability to perform job while standing, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.

Personal Protective Equipment:

* Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
