Market Segment Manager

Armstrong Flooring, a division of Armstrong World Industries, Inc., has a job opportunity for a Market Segment Manager to be located in Lancaster, PA. Under the direction of the Director of Commercial Marketing, the Market Segment Manager will be responsible for ensuring achievement of the business plan objectives by understanding segment opportunity, growth and trends. The Market Segment Manager acts as the liaison between Armstrong Flooring marketing, sales and the market segment itself. As such, this position will help to identify both marketing and sales strategy for the segment, be a stakeholder in new product development targeted toward the segment, target a list of key strategic projects within the segment and create product positioning, promotion and marketing plans to best position our brand in the segment.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Market Segment Manager:

 

  • Acting as the liaison between Armstrong Flooring and the market segment, including engaging in segment associations, participating on boards and committees, speaking at relevant events, networking at trade shows and writing articles for segment publications
  • Creating stakeholders who will extend our voice through the segment
  • Identifying product and service gaps and unmet needs applicable to the segment and communicating those opportunities to the Product Managers and business team
  • Understanding both the segments within the Segment, and the competitive landscape
  • Working with the Commercial Senior Marketing Manager and Marketing Specialists to develop the launch elements, programs, marketing tools and distribution plans targeted toward the segment
  • Participating in the development of the Marketing budget and Sales budget
  • Acting accountable for the segment marketing budget
  • Working with Sales and Product Management on targeted key projects to appropriately price, position and close sales
  • Providing segment-focused sales team training
  • Writing creative briefs and marketing plans for marketing communication initiatives
  • Tracking the effectiveness of segment marketing programs

 

Required Qualifications for the Market Segment Manager:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing or other related field
  • 8+ years of experience in sales and strategic marketing
  • Prior flooring or interior product experience
  • Knowledge of the Healthcare, Education, Corporate or Retail contract market segments with B2B sales or marketing experience
  • High-level knowledge of market conditions, particularly within targeted segments as well as knowledge of all company’s products, policies and practices
  • Knowledge of long-range and operational planning techniques
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of marketing segmentation, brand positioning and brand awareness
