Job Description


Job Responsibilities:


  • Plan and perform all bench and required machine operations, including experimental work, construct, alter, or repair tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, or gages involving the highest degree of specialized skill and knowledge of tool building practices.
  • Extremely intricate design and construction such as very complicated jigs and fixtures with a number of closely limited and interrelated locations, sub-press compound punches and dies for parts having delicate or very close tolerances, difficult forming dies involving considerable tool development work, or complex indicator gages and master gages, etc.
  • Design, layout and develop computer programs for CNC, EDM and other computer controlled machines and operate same to fabricate parts, die blocks, punches and gages, etc.
  • Make necessary mathematical calculations and select allowances for spring pressures, lapping, grinding, scrapping, fitting and finishing.
  • Perform tool room machine operations, operate one or more or unattended machines, requiring a variety of regular and exacting set-ups to maintain delicate and very close tolerances.
  • Perform bench work involving filing, scraping, grinding, lapping fitting, assembly and other adjustments to dies, etc., to obtain satisfactory operations.
  • Make tool tryouts, detect faulty operations and defective material and parts; diagnose and correct trouble in shop or at production lines as needed.
  • Clean dies as necessary prior to working on them and re-assembling them.
  • Required to have knowledge and ability to select metals, materials, tooling and heat-treating processes to obtain a quality part.
  • Work involves a variety of exacting machine and bench operations requiring skills and thorough knowledge of all machine and tool making practices, the use and interpretation of complex drawings; the making of correct decisions as to fits and finishes, machining and assembly sequences and the maintaining of close tolerance to produce quality parts and product.


Job Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Vocational, Community College, or Apprenticeship training
  • Ability to work to close tolerances
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Exposure to AutoCAD a plus
