Junipero Serra High School-Catholic College Preparatory in Gardena, California, is consideringapplications for English Teacher for 2019/2020 School Year:Candidates should be team players and able to collaborate easily withcolleagues. Strong organizational and class management skills needed as well asthe ability to communicate regularly and effectively with all stakeholdersincluding parents, other colleagues, and students. The successful candidatemust demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of content area and be able to engagestudents using a wide variety of teaching strategies, updating Gradebookweekly, developing 21st century skills, and educating the whole child, mind andspirit. Candidate must be highly skilled at planning, organizing, and developingcurriculum to reach the needs of all learners. This position includes English Literaturecollege prep courses. Candidate will also effectively collaborate withcolleagues to integrate the English department goals as well as the schoolmission.

MAJOR DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

* Instructs the English content and skills using astudent-centered approach guided by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). - Instructsstudents in basic communication skills and other general elements of the courseof study common to all teachers. - Adapts material and methods to developrelevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students. - Evaluateseach student's progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading andwriting) using a wide- array of formative and summative assessments. -Collaborates with colleagues within the English Department (as well ascolleagues in other academic departments) on curriculum and pedagogy. -Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt thecurriculum to the needs of each student. - Establishes and maintains thecooperation of the school administration standards of student behavior neededto provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. - Maintainsprofessional competence through participation in service education activitiesprovided by the school and/or self-selected professional growth activities. -Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff membersin assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.- Regularly communicates with parents and school counselors on the individualstudent's progress. - Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities duringthe assigned working day. - Participates in curriculum and other developmentalprograms within the school, and with specified educational partners. - Performsbasic attendance accounting and business services as required. - Shares in the sponsorshipof student activities and participates in faculty committees. - Performs othersignificant duties as may be reasonably assigned.



Candidatemust embrace the mission and values of the Catholic Church and Junipero SerraHigh School. BA in the subject area is required as well as a minimum two yearsteaching experience as a High School English Teacher. Candidate must befamiliar with Common Core State Standards. California Teaching Credentialand/or Masters in the subject matter or related filed is a plus. Familiaritywith online grading resources such as blackboard, PowerTeacher, and turnitin ispreferred.
