The Manager Work Equipment Shop ensures the safety of repair personnel, equipment, and vehicles assigned to Engineering Roadway Equipment Repair Shops.


•Manage the maintenance and repair activities of the Roadway Equipment Repair Shops while providing assistance and oversight for the Equipment Engineers and other personnel working in conjunction with the shops 
•Develop and manage a planned maintenance program, overhaul program, and failure response 
•Actively manage a Capital Overhaul Project, maintaining accurate data and progressive updates to Webwee 
•Provide service and material support to Division and Production Roadway Equipment Forces 
•Through the use of write-ups and material requirements develop and implement an equipment schedule for the equipment shops
•Utilize the Maximo Database System to maintain an accurate inventory and status of Engineering Department’s Equipment
•Assist in the development and implementation of an effective safety program for assigned personnel, including compliance with OSHA, FRA, and EPA requirements
•Responsible for ensuring that assigned equipment is safe to operate, load tested and complies with Federal Safety Standards.  Outfit equipment with necessary apparatus to ensure the safety of the public, operating employees, and equipment
•Responsible for training and mentoring program ensuring assigned personnel are qualified to maintain equipment to which they are assigned
•Directly supervises 40 Repairmen/Roadway Mechanics at various locations along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor
•Indirectly supervises 1 Equipment Engineer at various locations along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor.
•Maintains material inventories to support the planned and unplanned maintenance of equipment scheduled for shop repairs
•Work with Equipment Engineers to plan and implement heavy equipment repairs at shops, including winter overhauls
•Responsible for the operating budget of repair personnel as well as parts to support assigned equipment
•Implement and maintain a strong troubleshooting program among assigned Repairmen and Equipment Operators 
•Audit Operator Performance with respect to qualifications, equipment start-up, safety check list, RMM logs and general operation of equipment



•Experience in maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment, preferably M/W machinery
•Demonstrated managerial experience
•Experience in managing budgets
•Analytical and problem solving skills, self-starter requiring little direction
•Demonstrated experience in using PC-based word processing and spreadsheets
•Demonstrated experience in working effectively with multiple inter-disciplinary teams.
•Demonstrated years’ experience in equipment maintenance with knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic components and systems of heavy construction equipment.
•Experience in developing work plans to include scope, material take-off, and budget
•Experience with labor agreements
•Experience working in data based programs such as Maximo and SAP
•Experience preparing annual operating budgets



•Experience in managing programs in an operating environment
•Demonstrated experience in work and asset management applications, preferably IBM’s Maximo or equivalent
•Knowledge of mechanical systems and troubleshooting



•Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
