Job Description

We are currently seeking for an Assistant Controller, based in our corporate office in Chicago, IL.

Position Summary:

Direct and oversee the financial affairs of the company and prepares financial analysis of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules which will contribute to the control and optimum utilization of company assets

  • Direct and coordinate company financial planning, forecasting and budgeting for the consolidated company.
  • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of business units and departments.
  • Appraise management of results in terms of profitability, performance against plan/forecast, and other matters of operating effectiveness.
  • Oversee financial statement consolidation and close.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against plan/forecast.
  • Responsible for capturing, analyzing and disseminating critical business and financial information in support of the company's strategic and tactical operating plans.
  • Guide business units in the development of timely, accurate and usable financial data which will assure their effectiveness in meeting growth and profitability objectives.
  • Interpret financial results to make specific recommendations that will result in cost reduction and profit improvement.
  • Ensure preparation and submission of required tax reports in compliance with laws and reporting dates.
  • Works with business units to ensure accurate financial projections, analysis and identification of risks and opportunities.
  • Oversees the creation and maintenance of the financial models used in corporate budgeting and financial projection analysis.
  • Work with business unit managers and executive staff to develop business plans for the company.
  • Reviews business plans and presentations and provide recommendations with respect to financial opportunity and strategic fit.
  • Oversee financial management of foreign operations to include developing financial and budget policies and procedures.
  • Handle special projects as required (accounting and non-accounting).
  • Assist in structuring transactions including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, strategic alliances and financings.
  • Provides decision support with financial and operational analysis.
  • Direct improvement of financial transaction cycles; and identifying the need for, and effecting, other efficiency improvements. Direct accounting/finance technology improvements.

Selection Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
  • Working knowledge of short and long term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage teams and individuals to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Ability to communicate financial data to customers inside/outside accounting/finance department.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex financial data and its implications to the company.
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
  • Develop highly complex financial models.
  • Strong technical skills to research and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proficiency in using business systems (SAP, Excel, Powerpoint, et cetera).
  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance
  • 7-10 years related experience
