We are currently seeking Service Engineer to support the US Gulf - Southeast Region.

Position Summary:

Provide technical support to current and prospective customers in the use of Amsted Rail (ARX) products and industry requirements.  Act as a liaison in the field between customer service, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Quality and other ARX technical groups.

Principal Activities/Objectives:

Provides technical services and product support training to customers and other users of company products.

  • Conducts product performance analysis at customer locations or in response to customer requests.
  • Responds to and assists in resolving customer complaints.  Investigate actual or suspected product failures.
  • Provides technical education regarding rule changes and related regulatory matters affecting wheels, axles, bearings, trucks, end-of-car components, castings, lubrication and telematics asset monitoring for customers and other users.
  • Assists in and conducts joint product inspections with customers.
  • Develops training materials for seminars and participates in educational schools.

Assists internal engineering departments in product development, manufacture, and testing.

  • Assists in and conducts product testing at customer facilities, other external testing facilities, and using internal test capabilities.
  • Participates in product improvement and problem resolution teams as assigned.
  • Participates in process and testing improvements.
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvements.

Insures that products and services are positively perceived by customers by representing the company and its products and services in an effective manner.

  • Develops and implements a customer service plan for each assigned account.
  • Visits assigned customers on a regular schedule.  Coordinates those contacts with sales and marketing to optimize ARX presence in customer shops.
  • Analyzes customer specific performance issues and develops performance improvement plan.
  • Develops and reports information on customer perceptions of the quality and performance of competitor products.

Educational Requirements:

  • B.S. in Engineering, A.A.S. in Engineering Technologies or equivalent industry experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards desired.
  • Knowledge of bearing, wheel, truck, axles, castings, brake systems and remote monitoring equipment a plus.
  • Knowledge of Inspection, Testing and Measurement or Quality Systems key
  • Some use of statistical methods and process knowledge
  • 75% min travel
