Job Description

Amsted Rail is a globally integrated manufacturer.  Railroads, as well as car builders, owners, and leasing companies rely on us to provide components and innovative systems for freight cars and locomotives, repair and service and location and condition monitoring.  From the big picture to the finest details, Amsted Rail is continuously improving the heavy haul landscape.

We are currently seeking a Systems Administrator to perform administrational functions and tasks associated with server and network design, maintenance and deployments as well as PC and Help Desk technical support. An immediate opening is available at our corporate office in Chicago, IL.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience with network administration including server side development, building and maintaining VMware, Microsoft Active Directory and server systems hardware and architecture
  • Knowledge and experience with storage area networks, preferably NetApp technologies is a plus
  • 3-5 years experience with network engineering principles and practices including TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, EIGRP, SNMP, WAN technologies, VLANs and LAN switching and routing
  • Experience in LAN, WAN, security design, configuration and administration including firewall and VPN technologies
  • Experience managing SQL Server and SQL Reporting Services
  • Experience configuring computers and installing software for end-users on-site and off-site 
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of computer system hardware and software
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills are required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) for effective and successful interaction with all levels of staff and outside contacts
  • On-call availability, and occasional evening and weekend work may be required
  • Personality Traits: Service-oriented, independent, coach, innovative, organized, passion for latest technologies

Experience in the manufacturing industry is a plus.

Educational Requirements

  • BS Degree in Information Technology/Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Prefer a combination of industry networking technology certifications, such as CCNA, CCNP, CCSP, VCP, MCSE
