Job Description

Cumberland County Superintendents Association (CCSA) brings together the leaders of 16 Maine public school districts to generate ideas for improving services in our schools and to advocate for public education in general. Our schools are responsible for ensuring a challenging, relevant, and joyful education that empowers every learner to make a difference in the world. We build relationships among families, educators, and the community to promote the healthy development and academic achievement of every learner. 6725 students in grades K-12 attend Portland Public Schools - 25% are English Language Learners (with 61 different world languages spoken by students this year), 199 students are homeless, and more than half live in poverty and are food-insecure (54% of students qualify for free school breakfast and lunch). In the Brunswick School Department there has been a dramatic rise in the number of homeless students (from fewer than 11 just 4 years ago, up to an all-time record number of 79 homeless students last school year). The CCSA member districts are working together to promote the best possible educational experiences and opportunities for our students in poverty, and have identified significant barriers to overcome. This project is a collaborative plan for mitigating the impact of poverty on student learning, future opportunities and aspirations, and overall quality of life.
