Software Engineers that join our Technologies team can be assigned to one of several exciting teams that are responsible for the maintaining high availability across various production applications. These include, but are not limited to payment solutions, customer service portals, online merchant services support and integration, and suites of web-based applications. You will be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial team responsible for delivering high availability support for credit authorizations, world-class merchant / partner experiences across multiple channels, including web, Java services, APIs, distributed file systems, and network services. You will be challenged with identifying innovative solutions and proof of concept to deliver against the existing and future needs of our customers.

American Express Technology is looking for a Software Engineer to join a dynamic and innovative production support team. Our team supports multi-functional, rich global credit authorizations solutions, critical to the core of American Express' business. The team uses the Agile methodology for project delivery and operates in a fast paced business environment. From integrating with American Express Network partners, such as international banks, to developing highly available solutions and serving internal and external customers there will always be new and unpredictable challenges in this environment.

A successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplined, entrepreneurial team responsible for supporting and delivering world class Authorizations capabilities. This role requires hands-on knowledge of Java concepts/ frameworks, Oracle databases, and testing automation tools. Supporting a global business, you will be required to understand and deliver against a diverse set of business needs as well as providing your own feedback and inputs. This position is an entry-level Software Engineer and member of a product engineering or delivery and integration team reporting to an Engineering Director or Director of Technical Delivery.

Job Responsibilities :

Serving as a core member of an engineering team that supports various high availability core applications
Writing code and unit tests, working on API specs, automation, and conducting code reviews and testing
Identifying exciting opportunities for adopting new technologies to solve existing needs and predicting future challenges
Performing ongoing refactoring of code, utilizing visualization and other techniques to fast-track concepts, and delivering continuous improvement
Working with product managers to prioritize features for ongoing sprints and managing a list of technical requirements based on industry trends, new technologies, known defects, and issues

Qualifications
Required Skills/Qualifications :

Demonstrated experience in Agile project management, application support, software development, and testing
A proven hunger to learn new technologies and translate them into working software
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external business partners
Expertise in application analysis and support across a variety of platforms
Thorough understanding of XML, JSON , web services technologies, and data structure fundamentals, with experience in multi-threaded programming
Experience with Java application design and development in an enterprise setting including Java EE, Spring Framework, Test Driven Development - Junit, continuously available Java design, JSON, Jboss, and JavaScript
Experience with Oracle, Garbage Collector, LISA, Maven, Jenkins, RedHat Enterprise Linux, and VMWare
Experience with a broad range of software languages and payments technologies is a plus

Educational requirement : Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline (or equivalent work experience)

Preferred Additional :

Experience with Card authorization, merchant technologies and digital capabilities a plus
Experience in multiple IT disciplines
Agile project management experience
Production operations background
