Job Description

* Creation of web-based tools and utilities to streamline productivity of the American Express.com Infrastructure Platform. Identify processes that are subject to automation.
* Create shell scripts to support project deliverables.
* Creating end-user & support documentation.
* Defining test cases and fully testing all codepaths including success and failure conditions.
* Deploy applications in test environments and troubleshoot deployment issues.
* Maintain/update existing shell scripts in support of new requirements/functionality.
* Troubleshoot application issues in test environments, following a transaction flow from end-to-end. Inbound request from Internet -> web server -> application server -> database/backend.
* Work with Technologies application development teams to understand requirements for new functionality and how to integrate new solutions into existing infrastructure.
* Documenting and regression testing of changes to existing programs.
* Using source code version control tools.
* Interaction with technology customers in an effective and positive manner.
* Processing support requests from multiple application teams for infrastructure or application functionality issues.


* Requires experience delivery software and or hardware (IT infrastructure) related projects
* Grails 2.x, Java, Spring, Javascript, JQuery
* Experience with caching mechanisms for large web sites - e.g. ehcache, Twitter Bootstrap or other responsive CSS frameworks
* Experience with various VPS implementations (Amazon EC2, Digital Ocean etc),
* Strong knowledge and experience with UNIX scripting languages utilizing solid coding practices (code re-use, functions, comments). Perl, korn shell, bash shell
* Strong troubleshooting skills
* Need to be a logical thinker, someone who is able to combine technical skills with overall application requirements to implement creative solutions for problem resolution and automation
* Must be an adaptable and self-motivated team player, with strong analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills
* Should be able to work autonomously as well as collaborating as part of the team
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required, with ability to create and deliver effective solutions on-time
