Manager, Application Development

Job Description

American Airlines, Inc. has multiple openings for a Manager, Application Development to perform the following duties: Accountable for delivery and effective project management of projects and work requests within committed budget, schedule and quality. Identifies needs, secures commitments and monitors progress of deliverables from internal and external service provider teams. Ensures IT application development process standards and disciplines including solution delivery, project management, work requests, and QA are established, effectively managed and performed. Educates the team's customers on roles, responsibilities, processes and deliverables required to ensure effective delivery of new technology solutions. Provides cost estimates. Ensures technology solutions comply with architectural standards. Organizes and maintains performance of any application issues in accordance with agreed SLA. Organizes and provides 24x7 production support for the applications. Escalates and assists with follow-through on resolution of issues related to delivery of technology solutions. Supervises 15 IT professionals, including Team Leads, Sr. Developers, and/or Sr. Analysts, either as direct reports or sourced. Responsible for HR administration for direct reports including salary administration, and time reporting, assigns resources and tracks and provides status reporting of work assignments, projects, programs. Participates in developing and maintaining an overall sourcing plan, which includes creative sourcing options and alternatives to ensure supply capacities meet work demand, role and skill set requirements and cost objectives. Communicates progress to senior IT and Business leadership.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or related technology field plus 2 years of experience as an analyst or tech lead in Java/J2EE design and development, and demonstrated experience in: Web Services and SOA technology; Databases SQL & ORACLE; Translating functional and non-functional requirements into detailed technical specifications; Ensuring teams follow Software Development Best Practices including Continuous Integration, unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews; Waterfall and Agile/Scrum methodologies using tools incl Rally and VersionOne; Project Document using tools incl  Sharepoint; Working with Onshore/Offshore development teams.


Work Schedule: 40 hours per week/8 a.m.-5 p.m./M-F.
