Our ideal candidate is highly autonomous, very detail oriented, possesses strong written and verbal communication skills and has significant experience of supporting large scale, enterprise class networks. Network Automation Engineers work hand-in-hand with other Software Developers and Network Engineers to automate and invent new ways of operating Amazon's Next-Generation Network.

You are interested in being part of a high-bar team with global responsibility for network automation software used across all of Amazon's businesses. You are interested in solving difficult network problems using software at massive scale. You want to talk to customers directly and design solutions that solve their problems through innovation and automation. You understand how to build software in a continuous integration and continuous deployment environment. You are interested in working autonomously and owning your own code from requirements to launch and for supporting it in the field. You enjoy solving challenging problems and working in a fast-paced, flexible, collaborative team environment. You want to drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.
Additonal Responsibilies:
Mentoring more junior staff in network automation, including involvement in the formulation of a structured training plan Participation in entry level interviewing

Basic Qualifications

Strong customer orientation with ability to work directly with customer/product owner to define requirements and the associated acceptance criteria for user stories. Strong communications skills both written and verbal are required for this role. The ability to present complex ideas in a convincing and understandable manner are a key requirement. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and as part of a cross-functional team with the ability to influence others as a senior technical contributor. Bachelor's degree in computer science (or equivalent) is required. Software development skills, preferably in Python or Perl
Experience working on IP networking technologies and extensive experience in the application of routing protocols. (OSPF, BGP) Knowledge of a Linux or UNIX environment with a good understanding of networking concepts

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures. 3+ years experience working on networking technologies
Excellent analytical skills. Knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design and systems architecture 1+ years of programming experience
Familiarity with distributed systems, asynchronous messaging, and web and other network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS) Graduate degree a plus.
