Job Description

Job Corps' mission is to assist eligible youth to connect to the labor force by providing comprehensive and integrated academic, career technical, workforce preparation and independent living skills and support services leading to: Successful careers in in-demand industry sectors or occupations or the Armed Services that will result in economic self-sufficiency and opportunities for advancement; Enrollment in postsecondary education, including an apprenticeship program leading to long-term attachment to the labor force; and Responsible citizenship.

Position Overview:

Conducts and managagess career technical training. Responsible for providing career technical training to students in accordance with approved curricula to ensure they leave the program as graduates that attain and maintain employment.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

* Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom/training environment, ensuring maximum student motivation and outcomes.
* Integrates math, reading, and writing concepts with employability, and Career Success Standards,
* Designs instruction to meet individual student needs, maintains a high degree of discipline within the training area, submits necessary schedule change information.
* Designs curriculum within Job Corps guidelines to ensure students' needs are met.
* Schedules field trips, guest speakers, workshops, and other special projects to augment career training.
* Develops and implements Career Technical Skills Training (CTST) projects.
* Meets with Academic instructors to identify required skills that can be taught and reinforced with applying academic skills in an technical setting.
* Develops and implements applied academic projects.
* Maintains an active Industry Advisory Council.
* Submits ESPs in a timely manner, documents student progress for inclusion on the ETA 640 profile.
* Administers accurate completion of the Training Achievement Records (TAR) in a timely manner.
* Documents student's progress in case notes at least monthly and records daily attendance
* Completes a monthly Accomodation Effectiveness Review for each student with a documented accommodation.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

* Identifies and prepares potential students for the ACT and AT programs.
* Assists students with the Center's ACT process.
* Ensures that all equipment assigned to the classroom is properly accounted for and maintained in good condition.
* Participates in Career Mentoring Team.
* Provide support to the Career Development Services System (CDSS) department to ensure student job readiness.
* All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

Required Education and Experience:

* High School Diploma or GED.
* 2-3 years experience in a related field.
* Certified, licensed or accredited in the state in which the center is located, or accredited by a professional trade organization.
* For NTC, instructor must be certified by union or trade organization, or by national trade certifying organization.
* Valid state driver's license.
* CPR certification.

Preferred Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree
* One year of teaching experience.

About Alutiiq LLC

Alutiiq provides Education and Training Services to various Department of Labor Job Corp facilities or campuses. These campuses provide educational, vocational and life skills training to economically disadvantaged students. More than 75 percent of those who enroll in Job Corps become employed, obtain further training or participate in higher education, or join the military becoming productive, self-sufficient members of society. Alutiiq operates the Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center, and partners with ResCare Inc. in the operation of three other Job Corps Centers, Northland, Tulsa and Treasure Island. In addition, Alutiiq operates the Outreach and Admissions and Career Transition Services (Placement) in the state of New Jersey and in New York City for 2,750 arrivals and is responsible for placing over 400 completed students annually. Alutiiq is also responsible for 429 student arrivals in Oklahoma as part of a sub contract with ResCare in the operation of the Tulsa Job Corps Center. Job Corps is the nation's oldest residential, educational and training program for young adults. Originally formed in 1964 under the Office of Economic Opportunity, it has successfully trained more than 2.0 million young people. Job corps is divided into six regions, each made up of several states. There are more than 120 campuses nationwide, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Job is operated as a public-private partnership. The government provides facilities and equipment for the Centers. Private companies, and several other federal agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service, Parks Service, Bureau of Reclamation and Fish and Wildlife, contract with the Department of Labor to operate the Centers, recruit young men and women and provide job placement services. A unique approach, integrating academic, vocational and social skills training in a residential program, is employed. This gives young people a chance to change their lives and obtain realistic work experience and life skills. Active employer involvement in center training is also key to ensuring that students receive the work-related training needed to become competitive in the marketplace. Alutiiq supports Job Corps Centers nationwide to include the following: Flint/Genesee Job Corps Center, Flint, Michigan (Prime Contractor) Capacity 330, male/female to include non-resident students. Special Features: The Center operates a Day Care Center for 40 children and 30 students in conjunction with Head Start of Michigan. Vocational offerings: Business Clerical, Accounting Clerk, Computer Support Specialist, Health Occupations, Dispensing Optician, Dental Assistant, Manufacturing Technician, Welding, and Union operated Bricklayer, Carpentry and Painter.
