Job Description

The Technical Writer III will support the VH-92A, VH-60 and VH-3 platforms located onboard Patuxent River, MD. This position will work within the existing team to provide Quality Assurance support for the verification of Rotor Craft maintenance publications, provide data updates for all disconnected computer assets, and support the technical data TIMs and IPRs, as well as provide minutes and track action items for all technical data meetings.

The Technical Writer III develops, writes, and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment, receives assignment from supervisor, observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail. This writer interviews production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods, and reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.

The Technical Writer III studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail, organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; and reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding. This worker may perform the following tasks: maintain records and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material; assist in laying out material for publication, arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material, write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases, edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel. This incumbent may specialize in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.

Required Skills

Education:

Requires a Bachelor degree in an associated discipline with at least fifteen (15) semester hours of equivalent study in a subject matter field or combination of fields pertinent to the position such as computer science, electronics, other applicable field, or the equivalent experience, i.e., any combination of undergraduate/graduate study/experience where two (2) years of experience in the required areas equals one (1) year of academic proficiency.

Experience:

Requires three (3) years of experience as a technical writer of military specifications, standards, and technical manuals. Experience must include original writing or scientific, technical, engineering or other professional material requiring an understanding of the basic concepts, practices and specialized vocabulary of the appropriate scientific and technical field, and to acquire additional information about the field and related fields to describe the principles, operations, and basic concepts in clear simple language.

Knowledge and experience with the following is required:

* Technical publication experience in particular to NAVAIR standards
* Military Aviation Organizational Maintenance Experience
* Military Equipment Organizational Maintenance Experience
* Interactive Electronic Technical Manual usage experience
* S1000D Specification experience
* Writing, editing, or quality assurance of technical documentation experience
* Strong attention to detail
* Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Experience as a central or dispersed technical publication librarian is desired.

Must be an US Citizen

Must have a secret clearance and be able to obtain a Yankee White access clearance.

Alutiiq provides Education and Training Services to various Department of Labor Job Corp facilities or campuses.
