A Day in the Life:

Associates in the Accounting Intern role are expected to assist the accounting department in executing daily tasks, monthly tasks as well as some financial reporting activities. Accounting Interns will also develop relationships with the Property Accountants and Accounting Managers and assist them with their assigned properties to achieve each property's goals. You will obtain a glimpse into the exciting work of property accounting by learning bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, and journal entries.

What You'll Do:

* Assist department with some of the administrative tasks that may include scanning, filing, retrieving information from filing cabinets or online software.
* Assist property accountants in preparing monthly financial information in accordance with owner deadlines and requirements of portfolio. Some possibilities are listed below.
* Calculate monthly management fees.
* Prepare balance sheet account reconciliation.
* Prepare journal entries.
* Complete bank reconciliations.
* Prepare financial packages for distribution to ownership groups.

* Research problems under the direction of the Senior Property Accountant, Assistant Accounting Manager, and/or Accounting Manager as required.
* Communicate promptly and effectively with Controller, Accounting Managers and Property Accountants to work through tasks.
* Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
* Ensure adherence to policies and procedures and maintain effective internal controls.
* Other tasks as assigned or directed.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

* Ability to maneuver through different software systems, including use of industry-specific software and excel.
* Ability to use a 10-key calculator.
* Typing and data entry skills.
* Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
* Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and accounting system software.
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and relate effectively, productively, and positively with other associates and clients.
* Ability to multitask and change focus frequently.
* High tolerance for ambiguity and ability to adapt to change.
* Consistent, regular, and in-person attendance at the workplace during regular working hours is required.
