Spring 2020 Intern Position Summary

Alkermes is seeking a talented individual to intern in our Process Development Department in Waltham, MA. As an intern, the selected candidate will support the ongoing work on characterizing the mechanical properties of granular pharmaceutical materials that are paramount to the success of solid dosage forms manufacturing. Specifically, the project focuses on developing critical state constitutive models for quantifying the flow and compression of pharmaceutical excipients. The candidate should have in depth knowledge of solid mechanics and the current state-of-the art in this field. The program offers the candidate with hands-on experience in various solid-state characterization techniques, and the opportunity to gain fundamental understanding of key aspects of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

Preferred Education and Experience

Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bio-Medical Engineering or related discipline.

Minimum GPA 3.2

Preferred Advanced Competencies

* Background in solid mechanics

* Experience with granular material processes

* Proficiency with electronic notebook

* Proficiency in Python, MATLAB

* Highly motivated and detail oriented

* Ability to apply scientific principles to design, execute and interpret experiments

* Team player with good interpersonal skills

* Excellent written and oral communication

Personal Attributes Needed

* Motivated self-starter

* Positive, adaptable, can-do attitude

* Ability to work independently

* Ability to travel and work flexible hours as required

* Functional ability to work in a pilot plant and commercial facility
