Job Description

Alcoa Corporation is a global industry leader in the production of bauxite, alumina and aluminum, enhanced by a strong portfolio of value-added cast and rolled products and substantial energy assets. Alcoa Corporation draws on the innovation culture, customer relationships and strong brand of ParentCo. Previously known as the Aluminum Company of America, ParentCo pioneered the aluminum industry 128 years ago with the discovery of the first commercial process for the affordable production of aluminum. Since the discovery, Alcoa aluminum was used in the Wright brothers' first flight (1903), ParentCo helped produce the first aluminum-sheathed skyscraper (1952), the first all-aluminum vehicle frame (1994) and the first aluminum beer bottle (2004).

Today, Alcoa Corporation extends this heritage of product and process innovation as it strives to continuously redefine world-class operational performance at its locations, while partnering with its customers across its range of global products. We believe that the lightweight capabilities and enhanced performance attributes that aluminum offers across a number of end markets are in increasingly high demand and underpin strong growth prospects for Alcoa Corporation.

Alcoa Corporation's operations encompass all major production processes in the primary aluminum industry value chain, which we believe provides Alcoa Corporation with a strong platform from which to serve our customers in each critical segment.

The Plant Electrical Engineer position reports to the Engineering Superintendent and acts as the primary engineer for design, specification, analysis, and project support for electrical expense and capital projects to improve system efficiencies, reliability, and maintainability and reduce system downtime and failures.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position provides electrical engineering technical guidance to operations, maintenance, document control, and project engineering groups. In addition, this position performs the design, analysis, and modeling of electrical systems to improve designs, supports reliability efforts, support projects, and assist operations as needed. The position requires a strong foundation in knowledge of electrical engineering principles including embedded electronic systems like PLCs, low and medium voltage systems, and high power systems like those found in a substation. This position requires reading and interpretation of technical schematics and cut sheets. The plant electrical engineer serves as the back-up engineer to the Substation Power Engineer as needed. This position will develop extensive plant knowledge because of Intalco's large, complex, and varied electrical systems. These plant processes require continuous upgrading and modification. Incumbents have no subordinates, but must effectively interact with a wide variety of in-plant, engineering, drafting, contractor, and vendor personnel. The successful candidate will have strong technical and problem solving skills, is willing to work both in an office environment and in the field in an industrial manufacturing environment. This individual is very organized, gathers all pertinent data and information prior to making important decisions, and respects protocols and procedures, codes, and standards.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Work as an integral member of the Maintenance team to achieve department objectives in a timely manner.

2. Develop and apply maintenance knowledge of electrical systems to improve operational efficiencies, improve equipment uptime, and reduce maintenance cost.

3. Design and manage improvements to electrical systems, or fabrication of assemblies, components, and tooling to improve equipment capacity, reliability, maintainability, safety, or cost.

4. Collect and analyze relevant data about electrical systems to provide feasible recommendations to plant leadership, and technical guidance to maintenance personnel to increase Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and decrease Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).

5. Work closely with support entities including vendors, contractors, OEMs, and corporate internal experts, to improve equipment reliability, expand operational capacity, and reduce maintenance cost.

6. Support Project Engineers as needed in the design, specification, and technical interpretation of systems and drawings.

7. Provide back-up support for Project Engineers by running errands and providing contractor/vendor oversight as needed

8. Develop and deploy technical training relevant to electrical systems to improve the quality and efficiency of maintenance personnel towards achievement of reliability goals.

9. Facilitate productive relationships and effective communication between the Maintenance department and the other plant production and support departments.

10. Assist in developing capital projects in conjunction with project engineers/managers. Periodically manage aspects and execution of capital and expense projects.

11. Provide electrical design, drafting, modeling, and CAD support for facility projects.

12. Promote and facilitate employee engagement within collaborative teams towards defining, analyzing, and optimizing upkeep of plant equipment, with concentration on electrical systems.

13. Fulfill department-specific Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) roles and requirements.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar engineering discipline (recent graduate is ok). Functional understanding and skills with AutoCAD and modeling software like SolidWorks, as well as a strong understanding of Windows-based PC systems and Microsoft Office365 applications. This position requires you to be able to lift up to 40 lbs, work in all weather conditions, coordinate aspects of electrical projects, and act as the go-to technical resource for electrical inquiries for the plant. Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE, i.e. hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety boots, etc.) anytime work requires you to enter areas of the plant where PPE is required.

Preferred: 3+ years' experience in heavy industrial setting, manufacturing experience, leadership experience, PE, CMRP, PMP.
