Job Description

As an Application Engineering Intern for the Agilent’s System Products Division (SPD), you will become part of a team that creates the world’s leading power products and general purpose test instruments for the Test and Measurement Industry. SPD’s application engineering team focuses on giving our customers an edge by showing them how to apply our products to their application. Demo’s and programming examples are a key part of how we help customers get the most out of these products. In this position, you will develop hardware and software to demonstrate the key value that we bring to the market. Depending upon your interest, this will be for either a new line of DC power products or our state-of-the-art function generators and digital multimeters. By designing these demo’s, you will be involved in not only the engineering aspects but also in the design of how the demo is deployed to our engineering customers. This is normally a combination of the physical hardware and software plus videos that we deploy on YouTube and other similar sites around the world. Your coursework in electrical and computer engineering will be vital to your success as an Application Engineering Intern. Knowledge of software environments such as LabView, MatLab, C, and Basic will be helpful to perform analysis and to create programming examples. Experience using DC power supplies, Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generators, and Digital Multimeters is helpful as well. The System Products Division of Agilent has many engineers available to help you achieve the results during your internship. With two sites—one in Loveland, Colorado and the other in Budd Lake, New Jersey—SPD has extensive R&D and technical marketing engineers working to address the needs of our customers. With availability of these professionals, you can tap into their expertise to both learn and to get advice on how best to approach your project. Job duties for the Application Engineering Intern 1. Under the guidance of a lead application engineer: a. Create demo hardware and software that helps customers understand the key value of the product and how they can apply it to their application. b. Create programming examples that can be used directly by our customers c. Create videos and/or other web documents to show the demo and therefore help communicate the product’s value 2. Depending upon your interest and skills, this will be focused on either: a. DC power instruments – advanced DC power sources b. General purpose instruments – state-of-the-art waveform generators and/or digital multimeters

Qualifications:

Requirements for this position are a minimum of completed coursework at the Junior level in Electrical Engineering. Desired requirements are an undergraduate degree with enrollment in Master level coursework.
