Job Description

Job Title:  Quality Assurance Engineer

Department: Quality                                     

Classification: Exempt

Reports to: Manager, Quality

 

Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Engineer ensures customer perceived quality by leveraging quality tools in new product launches and engineering changes. The Quality Assurance Engineer also supports sourcing and manufacturing operations to coordinate and provide support.


Job Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of a process for manufacturing and supplier start-up as a part of new product development.
  • Prepare quality documentation reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, capability studies, recalls, corrective actions and re-validations.
  • Work with supporting team members (Product Engineering, Technical Services, Supplier Quality Engineering, Plant Quality Engineering, Sales) to drive root cause and corrective action on issues for both purchased and manufactured products and processes.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

Safety Responsibilities

  • Report any unsafe practices and/or conditions to their supervisor.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any defective PPE.
  • Report all near-misses, incidents, injuries, illnesses, including mobile equipment or property damage.
  • Participation in the site Safety and Health Program.

 

Essential skills

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • ASQ Certification preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a Quality Engineering role.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), First Article Inspection Reports, AIAG, advanced product quality planning (APQP), and production part approval process (PPAP) and associated tools.
  • Experience in Eight Disciplines (8D) corrective and preventative action processes and other quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean methodologies.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint).
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, including excellent interpersonal skills, and relationship-building across functions.
  • SAP experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience in an plastic manufacturing processes including Injection Mold, Extrusion and Rotational Mold desired.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office and manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the work environment. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme conditions including temperatures ranging from 40°F to 105°F.

 

Physical Demands

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or craw and frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands or arms. The employee must be able to stand for up to twelve hours per day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

 

The employee must occasionally wear personal protective equipment (i.e. eye protection, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, sleeves, etc.)

 

Travel

This position requires minimal travel, 15-30%.  Most travel is within the local area and occasionally travel is overnight (one to two days).
