Job Summary

The Technology Solutions Department located in Germantown, MD is seeking a motivated GIS intern to support a variety of GIS project needs. AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful and be decisive. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate knowledge commensurate with upper level student learnedness in Geographic Information Systems, Geography or Environmental Sciences.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

* Assists with mapping activities related to transportation, environment and water resources projects for Federal and municipal clients


* Performs GIS analysis


* Conducts map production tasks


* Responsible for database administration and design using both geospatial and non-spatial data


* Proactively evaluates optimal and efficient solutions to geospatial problems on projects

* Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.


* Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study


* Intern 1 - completion of first year of qualified study



Minimum Requirements

* AA/AS (US) + None or Diploma/Certification (Canada) + None

Preferred Qualifications

* A strong foundation in ESRI ArcGIS suite (ArcMap 10.x, ArcCatalog 10.x, and/or ArcGIS Pro 2.x)


* Geocoding large datasets


* Perform GIS analysis and map production through geoprocessing, field calculating, and problem-solving


* Knowledge of GIS best practices-including managing data; structuring, building, merging, and documenting database files; and transferring database files to a variety of formats and media and archive


* Demonstrable experience with scripting languages (e.g., python) for developing automated workflows and models


* A willingness to learn and adapt to open source platforms (e.g., KNIME, QGIS) for the purpose of aggregating and displaying data.


* Microsoft Office
