Position Title Entry Level Staff Scientist I

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking Entry-level Staff Scientist Biologist in our Houston, TX office location. The position is full time, with working conditions being over 40 hours per week, depending on project schedule and field conditions. Some weekend work may be required. The ability and desire to perform extensive fieldwork on potentially difficult terrain and during adverse weather conditions on field assignments ranging from several days to months at a time will be essential. Training in relevant biological disciplines (e.g., wildlife, plants, fisheries, herpetology, entomology), strong field skills, and familiarity with major environmental regulations are important. Good interpersonal skills, excellent writing and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are fundamental. Attitude and demeanor compatible with collaborative team efforts, ability to professionally interact with clients and resource agency representatives, and ability to understand the expectations of assigned tasks are desired. Cross-experience with construction crews and field engineers is a plus.

Applicant should also indicate applicable experience and proficiency with Geographic Information System and Microsoft Office programs. Ability to utilize hand held Geographic Position System data collection devices is necessary.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

+ Identification and monitoring of sensitive biological resources, inspecting work sites for compliance with permits, coordinating with the project team and construction supervisors, preparation of wetland and waterbody encroachment permits, and preparation of restoration plans.

+ Conducting general field surveys for biological resources, conducting sensitive species surveys and permitting,

+ Conducting wetlands permitting (e.g., CWA Section 404 and 401, DFG Section 1600)

+ Preparing biological reports, preparing and implementing mitigation and restoration plans, and preparing biological resources sections of CEQA and NEPA documents.

Minimum Requirements

+ Bachelor's degree in Biology or other related Environmental field required

+ Applicable experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

+ Ability to utilize hand held Geographic Position System data collection devices is necessary

+ Good interpersonal skills, excellent writing and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

+ Background knowledge of 401/404 wetland and waterbody encroachment permitting in TX, LA, OK, and NM a plus.

+ Applicable experience and proficiency with Geographic Information System

+ Cross-experience with construction crews and field engineers is a plus.

+ OSHA 40 Hours desirable
