Clinical Social Worker - MSW - AdventHealth for Children- Orlando

AdventHealth for Children / Orlando seeks to hire Clinical Social Worker - MSW who will embrace our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.

Facility Profile:

Since opening our doors in 1908, AdventHealth has offered one of the most comprehensive children's health programs in Central Florida. Today, we continue this legacy of pediatric excellence at the Magnet® recognized Walt Disney Pavilion at AdventHealth for Children. Our campus is home to 30 pediatric sub-specialties led by a team of 400+ nurses and physicians. We provide specialized care in various state-of-the-art settings, including an 81-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with private family-centered rooms, an Advanced Center for Pediatric Surgery handling nearly 4,000 cases each year, and one of the few pediatric oncology programs in the area. We're also Central Florida's only pediatric provider for bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant, Gamma Knife services, trilogy radiation and Level III epilepsy care. But perhaps most exciting of all, is that this is the first-and only-hospital to bear the Disney® name.

Work Hours/Shifts:

8am -5:00pm; M-F

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director and/or Manager, in collaboration with the Case Manager, works with the patient/family, physicians, interdisciplinary team and external agencies. The Social Worker-MSW utilizes expertise in patient/family assessment incorporating physical, psycho-social, environmental, spiritual, and financial factors to assess patients for barriers that interfere with the attainment of healthcare goals. The Social Worker-MSW educates the health care team and physicians about psycho-social issues and identified patient/family problems as well as recommends strategies to address these issues. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required:

* Master's in Social Work
* Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
* Ability to act in an autonomous, self-directed manner while maintaining the ability to collaborate with other members of the team
* Critical-thinking/problem-solving skills
* Knowledge of and ability to utilize in house and external resources
* Flexibility in prioritization and effective organizational skills
* Ability to analyze complex technical data and complex interpersonal dynamics in brief time
* Ability to utilize stress management techniques effectively
* Knowledge of population characteristics to include cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity
* Ability to identify, coordinate, utilize, and develop community resources
* Knowledge of computer programs
* Skill in utilizing Microsoft Word and Outlook tools
* Skills in advocacy
* Ability to provide Solution-Focused Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Theory and Systems Theory (Preferred)
* Registered clinical social work intern (Preferred)
* Experience in clinical counseling (Preferred)
* Experience in pediatrics (Preferred)

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required:

* Registered Clinical Social Work Intern (Preferred)

Job Responsibilities:

Demonstrates through behavior AdventHealth's core Values of Keep Me Safe, Love Me, Make it Easy, and Own it

* Advocates for the patient in obtaining and negotiating resources to meet patient needs, as necessary
* Interviews patients/families to complete a thorough and timely psycho-social assessment and to evaluate current support systems available to the patient and family. Completes assessments, per department standards, based upon information from multiple sources including the patient, family, nursing staff and physician as well as information discussed in multi-disciplinary rounds. Documented assessments confirm an understanding of the patient's functional status and psycho-social needs.
* Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to address barriers that may impact or delay the patient's discharge plan. Works in collaboration with hospital and community agencies to obtain needed services and resources for patients/families/caregivers.
* Prepares for and participates in multi-disciplinary rounds on assigned nursing unit for the purpose of updating the team on the psycho-social needs and to identify potential social work referrals. Appropriately prioritizes cases according to assessed needs.
* Provides patient/family education, adjustment-to-illness counseling, grief counseling and crisis intervention. Provides education to patients/families/caregivers regarding resource options and coping with diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. Ability to provide end of life support.
* Provides consultation to and educational programs for, healthcare team members regarding the impact of psycho-social factors on illness. Facilitates staff emotional debriefings and family meetings.
* Stays abreast of changing social work clinical trends and regulatory matters
* May serve as a field instructor for social work students
* As required and/or depending on interests, serves upon departmental and hospital committees
