Job Description

Electrical Design Engineering including the design and analysis of windings, components, assemblies, drawings, production instructions, and testing related to electric motors.Perform various Design Engineering duties requiring the exercise of engineering judgment and application of engineering principles and practices. Pursue initiatives to improve effectiveness of the Design Engineering Function and increase customer satisfaction.


Entry Level (< 2="" years="" of="" work="">


Create new Engineering Drawings or modify existing Engineering Drawings for Winding Design and Motor Construction.

Analyze the effects of Design Changes on Motor Performance. Initiate Technical Data Release when changes are made to existing Designs, Model Numbers, Drawings, Customer Data, and Software.

Use Computer Software and Corporate Design Programs to develop quality Motor Designs and Software. Perform all required calculations to assure new Designs meet Customer Requirements and ABB/Baldor Safety and Design Parameters.

Develop Winding Designs to yield Motor Performance per applicable Customer and industry Standards. Evaluate Test Data and Motor Performance against Customer Requirements and issue Test Reports.

Support Marketing and Sales Teams to meet Business Goals, including Cost Reduction Goals.

Evaluate and Authorize Component Part and Material Substitutions within specified limits and procedures.

Evaluate rejected components, and authorize repair procedures and processes when applicable.

Provide Standard Software and Customer Specific Software.

Understand and apply requirements for Agency Approvals as requested by the customer. Design and Specify orders incorporating these requirements such that all Regulatory Requirements and Standards are fulfilled.

Complete Training to Engineering Standards and Corporate Design and Safety Standards.

Assist Customers and Auditors with Witnessed Testing.

Contribute as a Professional to improving the Performance of the Design Engineering Department.



Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering AND 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment


Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering AND 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

* A Master's Degree in required field = Credit given for 2 years of work experience.
* A PhD/Doctorate in required field = Credit given for 3 years of work experience


5+ years' experience in motor design, winding, and testing.

Strong team skills.

Strong communication skills to work with Sales, Marketing, Customers, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing.

Computer programming experience.

Experience with SAP, Word, and Excel.

Experience with AutoCad, SolidWorks, or electromagnetic design tools.

Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
