AARP Idaho is seeking a results-oriented student with a communications, marketing, public policy, public administration or political science background who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing skills, event planning experience, and good understanding of social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This internship opportunity will provide experience on how to attract and inform people through community engagements and communication channels.


The intern will report to the state director and will be assigned to work under the direction of staff members. The intern's work will include, but not limited to, event planning and execution and using creative skills to effectively engage the 50+ community. In coordination with AARP staff, intern will perform research, plan & execute community events and engage in other forms of community outreach, and through use of social media channels to "Tell the Story" about AARP Idaho's work. Intern will also seek innovative ideas and opportunities to reach out to the Hispanic/Latino community 50 years and older.


Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; be in good academic standing; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors or rising first or second year graduate students. AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (2010 preferred): Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required as is the ability to work independently; Basic photography skills are required; the ability to shoot and edit compelling video is a plus but not required. Intern must have good organizational skills (time management, planning, clear communication). Intern may be pursuing a degree in any area; however, an emphasis in communications, marketing, public policy, political science or public administration is preferred. Intern must have strong interpersonal skills and be willing to contact people by phone or in person. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
