Job Description:

3M is seeking a Strategy and Marketing Development (SMD) Intern for the Strategy & Marketing Development (SMD) group located in St. Paul, MN for Summer 2020. Here, you go.

An internship is a temporary position within 3M. Interns typically work a full-time schedule throughout a 10-12 week assignment. This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year. 3M provides eligible interns with temporary housing and round-trip travel reimbursement in accordance with current policy.

About the Strategy and Marketing Development Program:

Interns in 3M's SMD Program provide internal consulting services to the company's 20+ divisions. The department is comprised of experienced individuals from top-rated MBA programs who provide strategic marketing leadership, analytical thinking, strong project management skills, and a fresh perspective to every assignment.

This leadership development program offers interns the opportunity to contribute daily to the growth of 3M's four business groups: Health Care, Safety & Industrial, Consumer, and Transportation & Electronics. Interns work closely with business development, marketing, sales, and technical personnel to address a variety of domestic and international business situations.

SMD Interns are supervised and coached by a full-time member of the department. While intern projects are scoped to be completed within an internship, the projects represent real business challenges faced by 3M's business units and mirror the work conducted by full-time members of the department. Through networking and corporate-sponsored events, interns are exposed to many facets of both 3M and the Twin Cities.

Project Areas include:

* Marketing: Market and product opportunity analysis, commercialization of new products, new product introduction process, pricing analysis, competitive analysis, segmentation, brand strategy, digital strategy, etc.
* Strategy: Corporate and divisional strategic planning, market platforms assessment, technology assessment, growth plans, strategy development, etc.
* Business Development: Business modeling, new business development processes, mergers & acquisitions strategy and planning, etc.

Job Summary:

As a Strategy and Marketing Development intern, your primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

* Leading and effectively managing projects end-to-end
* Analyzing business data and making actionable recommendations for clients and division management
* Building strong client relationships through effective interpersonal skills
* Working both collaboratively and autonomously
* Leading and participating on cross-functional teams, while managing both internal and external resources, such as research suppliers, advertising/creative agencies and other corporate resource groups
* Navigating a large, matrixed organization

Basic Qualifications:

* Possess a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institute
* Currently pursuing an MBA from an accredited institute

Preferred Qualifications:

* Currently pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in marketing, finance, strategy, and/or general management from an accredited institute
* Minimum of three (3) years' work experience in Marketing, Business, Sales, Strategy, or Finance
* Demonstrated leadership abilities and high ethical standards
* Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and team skills
* Superior quantitative and analytical skills
* Superior problem-solving, interpersonal, project management, and presentation skills

Location: St. Paul, MN

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international travel

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)
