Job Description

1-888-OhioComp is looking for a Certified Medical Coder to complement our existing coding staff. The ideal candidate must hold one of the following credentials: CCS-P, CCS, CPC, COC-H, or CPC-P. Familiarity with the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation desired. We offer an excellent benefit package, daytime hours, and a friendly office environment. This position is responsible for conducting reviews (concurrent and retrospective) of medical records and bills for appropriate coding and monitoring procedures. The coder conducts the quality review of inpatient and outpatient coding, assures coding compliance with federal and Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) rules. Uses ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding classification systems and guidelines.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a resource and liaison to the billing and nursing departments regarding coding questions

  • Contact providers and the BWC regarding coding questions and/or issues

  • Address issues regarding CPT codes that are By Report (BR), Non-Covered (NC), Not Routinely Covered(NRC), and above fee schedule/maximum units

  • Review bills that must be sent to utilization review and BWC Medical Policy to ensure that bills are properly coded for medical services provided as supported by medical documentation from the date of service

  • Confirms the CPT code is appropriate for the diagnosis bill

  • Confirms the billed CPT and HCPCS codes are correct based on medical documentation. If not, identify the most appropriate code(s)

  • Confirm that the billed modifiers are correct

  • Identifies the correct order for multiple surgical procedures billed

  • Confirms reimbursement is eligible for the POS billed

Qualifications:

  • Must hold one of the following credentials: CCS-P, CCS, CPC, COC-H, CPC-P

  • Good computer skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to work in a team environment
