About UCSF Medical Center
The McGrath Laboratory at UCSF is one of the basic science research components of the Hematology-Oncology Department at San Francisco General Hospital, a division of the Department of Medicine with a broad range of patient care, teaching, research and public service responsibilities. A major program under the McGrath Laboratory is the UCSF AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource (ACSR) program, a human biospecimen bank which was established by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to encourage and facilitate research on HIV-related malignancies through providing biological specimens with associated clinical data and evaluating novel technologies. The goal of the ACSR is to identify and improve access to tissue, blood and other fluid specimens, as well as to provide baseline and clinical outcome data from individuals HIV-infected and uninfected to researchers in need of biospecimens for their research.
