Job Description

The Firmware Engineer will be part of a development team working in new product introduction & existing product sustaining / support. This team is responsible for long term development programs for new products, the sustaining of existing products, as well as short-cycle custom design tasks that leverage existing standard product platforms. Essential Responsibilities In addition, you will:

Design using object-oriented techniques and associated languages

Develop systems using real-time embedded operating systems (VxWorks, QNX, etc.)

Develop signal processing, data acquisition, event processing, and data management applications

Develop embedded designs from high-level application to low-level hardware device drivers

Work with firmware principal engineer to help drive overall firmware architecture initiatives

Use Test Driven Development to deliver solutions

Work with NPI and sustaining engineering teams in development and execution of product enhancements, product upgrades, and new product introductions

Analyze embedded code to determine root cause of defects and implement corrective action

Own technical leadership responsibilities for product feature development and implementation

Perform Third Part Review of firmware development code

Drive the strategy and structure of embedded designs, techniques, and processes

Engage in all aspects of project development ranging from system level design and requirements analysis through code development and testing

Evaluate new applications, continually enhance existing products, and create new designs & modifications for the Measurement & Control Solutions Bently Nevada product lines Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university (or Bachelor's Degrees in general studies with a minimum of 5 additional years of experience writing code for an embedded processor)

Minimum of 1 year of experience using C++ or similar programming language (internships acceptable) Additional Eligibility Qualifications GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen. Desired Characteristics Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0

Minimum of 1 year of experience writing code for an embedded processor

Ability to work well with global teams, including time-zone flexibility

Demonstrated skills in object-oriented techniques and associated languages

Experience with -RTOS - QNX and the use of tools such as BDMs, memory programmers

Experience using hardware debugging tools; oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.

Experience using software debugging tools; emulators, debuggers, etc.

Experience in SIL rated firmware code development

Experience in FPGA firmware development, including VHDL, and Verilog development

Experience in design of PCIe, USB, Memory Controllers - DDR2 / DDR3, ARM microprocessor-systems

Experience with Ethernet TCP / IP, UDP, memory architectures, databases and structures

Experience in NET, DCOM, ATL, VC++, VB, SQL Server, SOA, Java, JBOSS, or XML

Demonstrated ability to communicate complicated ideas to various levels and people of differing backgrounds

Demonstrated ability to identify and drive process improvements

Demonstrated skills in problem solving

Working experience with Test Driven Development Techniques

Knowledge and/or working experience of the AGILE development process

Knowledge of and experience with the Bently Nevada product line

Knowledge of and experience with the GE Mark VI / VIe Turbine Controller product line

Proven ability to work amongst diverse teams cross functionally with other business departments

Basic understanding and knowledge of test driven development concepts

Basic knowledge of manufacturing concepts

Fast learner with energy and enthusiasm

Strong oral, written communication and presentation skills

Skilled at using SAP R / 3 ERP system
