The Institute of Personality and Social Research is a world-wide center of research on personality and social processes. This half-time (50%) position will serve as a web manager for the Berkeley Social Interaction Lab as part of a grant seeking to study the universality of awe. The person in this position will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a web site used to collect data from different countries related to the universality of awe. These data will include stories written by people from different cultures, as well as pictures and videos of people's awe experiences. The website will also serve as a resource for people to learn about awe, taking awe-relevant surveys and interacting with other people regarding their awe experiences. The person in this position will also be responsible for converting these web submissions to data sets for scientific purposes.
-Designs, creates, maintains a Universal Awe website for the purposes of gathering narrative, visual, audio data related to awe around the world and being an interactive platform for people to learn about awe and interact with each other.
-Works with existing new social media possibilities - Facebook, Tumblr, Youtube, Twitter - to identify data bases with relevance to awe.
-Creates data sets from these various new social media possibilities for scientific purposes.
-Assists with derivation of measures from big data gathered on site.
-Assists with write up of papers on data from website.
-At least 3 years of experience in web design, building, and maintenance.
-Excellent web design and building skills.
-Excellent skills creating, managing big data sets.
-Familiarity with new social media data - twitter, Facebook, etc.
-Project management skills, including ability to develop work plans and timelines, handle simultaneous assignments, and meet deadlines.
-Bachelor degree in computer science or a related field (e.g., web design, engineering, etc.) preferred though not required.
-Knowledge of contemporary scholarship in the behavioral and/or social sciences.
-Experience in the new social media
-Some training in big data statistics.
-Experience building interactive maps.
-Basic design and animation skills preferred though not required, including knowledge of relevant software (e.g., Photoshop, Flash).
-Background in social science preferred though not required.
-Some knowledge of statistical tools for analyzing big data desirable.
Salary & Benefits
Annual Salary: $57,000 - $84,600 (Full-time Rate) Salary commensurate with experience.
