Lyris, Inc is a growing digital marketing company in Emeryville, CA, with several market-proven product offerings. We are creating a highly-advanced cloud-based marketing automation platform, built from the ground up to power data-driven engagement and sophisticated analytics.
We are seeking software engineers to help us build a next-generation, service-oriented marketing platform in the cloud. Do you pick up new technologies quickly? Do you understand performance and scalability, how basic internet technologies like TCP, HTTP, SMTP work? Do you freely ask and answer questions, accept help and offer it? Do you know something about multi-threading, efficient algorithms, big-O notation? Is JUnit your friend? Do you write JavaDoc or comments before writing executable code? Do you love the art and craft of what you do, and take pride in code that is clean and easy to maintain? If this sounds familiar, we want to talk to you!
You will be working on high-performance software and services. Depending on your experience and programming skills, you might be enhancing existing products or helping to design and implement new products, based on current open-source technologies like Mule, Hadoop, Spring, and a half-dozen others. We are working like a start-up, in small engineering teams, using Agile/Scrum. We will expect you to jump in quickly. We hope that you will find the work fulfilling, and have some fun doing it.
5+ years software development
Solid and current skills in either C++ or Java
BSCS preferred, or college degree with equivalent experience
Additionally several (or many!) of the following areas of experience/expertise:
RESTful API development, familiar with JSON, SOAP and XML in general
High-scalability architectures, especially with JMS
Linux/Unix command line utilities, piping, shell scripting
MySQL or other RDBMS, especially if you understand how a database engine works
Open source software from Apache, Google, SourceForge or others
Hadoop/HDFS, plus technologies like Hive, HBase, SOLR
Middleware integration with ESBs or workflow engines
HTTP and SMTP protocols, MIME encoding, SSL, understanding of DNS, RFC 822, etc.
Internet marketing, email deliverability, display targeting with cookies, etc.
Analytics with big data, columnar databases or OLAP
