Job Description

Sony Electronics Semiconductor group of the Components Solutions Business Division (CSBD) located in San Jose, CA, currently has an opening for a Field Application Engineer. CSBD is responsible for Sales and Marketing, including Engineering Support (Field Applications) for Sony's semiconductor and component products to customers across North and South America. The Field Application Engineer will focus on Sony's CMOS Image Sensors for consumer and industrial products and will work closely with the Japan support team in support of customers in Silicon Valley and the rest of the Americas.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Front-line engineering and technical marketing support for OEM/ODM customers using Sony CMOS Image Sensors

- Organize hardware support and test equipment, test equipment, documentation and related software

- Explanation and training of customers the products' specifications, design requirements, interoperability and functionality

- Remote and first-hand duplication and debug of customer reported issues, along with test and release of issue resolutions

- Communication with Japan-based design and support engineering teams regarding customer projects' status, requirements and feedback

This position will work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Individual will exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and builds productive internal/external working relationships.

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required or equivalent Must have a minimum of 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience in semiconductors, or co-op , internship or research work related to semiconductors prior to graduation. Course work and hands-on experience in semiconductor theory and manufacturing, digital design, analog design, power supplies, transmission lines and other fundamentals of electronics and semiconductors products are all essential Hands-on experience with electrical hardware laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, simulators and/or emulators, etc…) is required Strong documentation writing and communication skills are requisite (English essential, Japanese and/or Chinese also an asset) Basic software development and programming experience is needed Experience with some development tools for design capture, simulation, synthesis, test and debug is expected Technical leadership, learning of new systems and ability to work independently are vital qualities Ability to understand and gain expertise in industry interface standards (MIPI, I2C, SPI, LVDS, etc…) is required Familiarity with mechanical drawing, CAD design (2D, 3D), PCB design, layout and manufacturing are all highly useful Knowledge of imaging devices, image processing and/or optics are highly desirable Experience with programmable logic design (FPGA) using Verilog or VHDL is helpful Background in the understanding of signal integrity and EMI/EM F issues is an asset May require frequent and/or extended travel, domestic or international, up to 30% of time or possibly more; local travel will also be required Must have reliable transportation to support the requirement of traveling to several Silicon Valley customers Must be able to satisfactorily pass a DMV background check
