This position will be in the Bioengineering Department working at the Anderson Lab on the Clotho 3.0 Project, a synthetic biology data management and manipulation tool suite that will be used as synthetic biology learning resource.
This project is funded by the Clotho Project, which is a collaboration with Boston University.
This position is for a 1 year contract at 49.5%.
This position involves writing programs in a computer language, designing related databases, web interfaces and content, or multimedia processes. Designs, develops, modifies, tests and evaluates and maintains computer programs. Work includes test-to-production processes, quality assurance, maintenance and documentation of applications. Includes web applications programming.
As Programmer 3, the individual will be responsible for the creative development of user interfaces for clients through consultation of wet lab users and working with a user interface firm in San Francisco. The programmer will be using Angluar MVC framework for client side code that interacts with server side code (run in Java)l As a programmer, the individual will need to have a thorough understanding of the Clotho 3.0 eco-systems middleware and communication protocols.
Most of the work requires the ability to identify any problems in the software based on analysis of the output, and to identify how to fix these bugs. S/he will be responsible for maintaining client's interfaces and developing strong relationships with these individuals.
-Drafts the Clotho 3.0 client side middleware. This involves writing the Java script code to connect to the Clotho server and communicate via message orientated middleware commands these commands will be JASON objects wrapped in established security protocols and transmitted via a WebSocket. The commands to the server are relayed unto the server side API that implements user-initiated commands. This also involves server to client commands for manipulating a local cache and manipulating the DOM. The individual will be responsible for writing this code and debugging/writing demonstrations of its function.
-He/she will be responsible for re-writing the existing Clotho search bar to employ MOM based communications with the server and data bindings to Angular.js,
-Writing the code for displaying widgets, managing their location on the screen and their bindings to data via Angular.js.
-He/she will be responsible for designing the user interfaces for implementing dynamic TRAILS on the client. This involves sequential display of GUI elements and the transclusion of external web resources.
-Interacts with senior level internal personnel and user interface firm.
-Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for approval of system and programming documentation.
-Recommends and implements changes in development, maintenance and system standards.
-Trains users in conversion and implementation of system.
-Understands industry practices and department policies and procedures relating to work assignments.
-Performs complex data modeling, performance and integration testing and builds screens for a variety of internal and external constituents.
-Specific knowledge of client side MVC
-Requires thorough knowledge of applications programming function.
-Must have knowledge relating to the design and development of applications programs across the organization.
-Requires knowledge of other related areas of IT.
-Requires advanced skills associated with programming design, modification and implementation.
-Requires interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
-Has skills needed to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
-Must be able to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.
-Requires ability to understand business needs and how business systems can support those needs.
-Has ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
-Must be self motivated, work independently or as part of a team, able to learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate problem solving skills.
-Must have advanced skills in web applications, web programming language and object oriented programming concepts.
-Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
-Significant internship and/or work experience with client side MVC and/or computer programming.
-Knowledge of department processes and procedures.
Salary & Benefits
Annual Salary: $57,000-$84,600
