As the sixth-largest faith-based health system in the United States, our hospitals and care facilities are recognized in their communities for excellence, both as treatment centers and as places to work. Providence Health & Services is a not-for-profit health system committed to providing a comprehensive array of services to meet the needs of communities across five states, including Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon and California.  Providence continues the legacy of the Sisters of Providence and the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary in the West spanning more than 150 years.

In 2008, across our system, we provided services to more than 7.2 million people. That's equal to filling every NFL stadium to capacity three times over.

Imagine the difference your career at Providence will have in the lives of others.  Join the more than 50,000 professionals in five states who have found their calling at Providence Health & Services.

Company History

Over a century ago, the Sisters of Providence laid the foundation for a healing ministry that now spans five states and provides a caring presence in the communities in which we serve.  That healing ministry is Providence Health & Services.  Today, inspired by the spirit of our founders, the people of Providence share a deep, personal calling to serve by providing those in need with high-quality, compassionate care.

The order of the Sisters of Providence was founded in Montreal, Quebec by Mother Emilie Gamelin.  Moved by the love of Christ to serve the poor, hungry and sick in her community, Emilie’s work – and her mission – was known by those around her as “providence” for the poor.

Recently, Providence Health & Services marked the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of the Sisters of Providence in Washington and celebrates the founding of the oldest corporation in the West.

Mission & Values

From our humble beginnings in the Sisters' first one-room hospital, Providence Health & Services has remained steadfastly committed to our Mission of providing a healing ministry. The same spirit of service that fueled our founders continues today, and is evident in every aspect of our Mission.

Firmly rooted in the charitable works started more than 150 years ago:

As people of Providence, we reveal God's love for all, especially the poor and vulnerable, through our compassionate service.

This is our Mission. It's what we stand for, and what we believe in. We continue to base our work on core values of respect, compassion, justice, excellence and stewardship.

Working Here

Providing the very finest patient care is the responsibility of every member of the Providence Health & Services team. Direct care providers such as nurses, therapists, pharmacists and allied health professionals play fully integrated roles in caring for our patients. However, it also takes the talent and teamwork of many disciplines to bring our Mission to life.

Providence offers a variety of rewarding careers in clinical and non-clinical disciplines.

Everything we do in operational areas, including management, finance, information technology, human resources and support services, is focused on those we serve. Our core values of respect, compassion, justice, excellence and stewardship are put into action every day by every employee.

Here, you'll find professionalism that is reflective of the important work we do—saving lives, improving the quality of life and promoting wellness. The people of Providence are passionate about their work because they are passionate about life. If you feel the same way, join us.
