Job Description

Job Category: Software Engineering: Development
Location: Redmond, WA, US
Job ID: 844732-118817
Division: Microsoft Office Division

Interested in enabling thousands of engineers to build scalable services and responsive applications? The Office Trustworthy Computing team is responsible for building the performance engineering practices, infrastructure, and tools used throughout the Office division. We are looking for enthusiastic developers to help us in our mission to make the next version of Office delightfully quick, whether running on a desktop, a device, or a service.

Developers in the Office Trustworthy Computing team will work with many teams across Office, from those building well-established desktop applications like Excel, Work, Outlook, OneNote, and PowerPoint, to those building broadly deployed services like SharePoint and Office Web Apps, to those building new experiences for the evolving device ecosystem, and help them build software with great performance characteristics that matter to our customers. This includes ensuring efficient CPU, memory, and I/O resource management across the entire Office software spectrum, as well as ensuring responsiveness and high concurrency for our web services, and optimal power usage for applications running on battery-powered devices, among other considerations. We will do this by identifying and providing best practices across the software lifecycle, assisting with performance investigations, building profiling toolsets to enable analysis of performance issues, and building a continuous performance monitoring infrastructure for apps and services across Office. The breadth of our work provides opportunities to work with a variety of software languages and technologies, including C++, C#, SQL, and x86/amd64/arm assembly, and variety of platform environments including Win32, WinRT, and .Net.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering, will have 1-3 years of prior work or internship experience, and be proficient in C++ or C#. Experience diagnosing and fixing software performance issues is preferred.
