Job Description

It ain't easy running a site with 102M+ users and 39M+ reviews, but we do it with just a few people. This team does it all. They tame MySQL replication one day, implement a brand-new feature the next, and push it all out that night. They love being responsible for whole systems, and they love scaling those systems to the next level. But what really keeps the code flowing? Daily release cycle, baby!

Job Duties:

Utilizing Python, Java, C++ and HTML to design, develop, and support new features and interfaces to the web infrastructure, including software frameworks and tools;

Creating clean interfaces, scalable servlets and testing frameworks used by the Yelp platform to ensure that the unique data set remains a useable platform for Yelp reviewers and business owners;

Using knowledge and understanding of data structures, information retrieval, system analysis concepts and their interplay with search engines and large amounts of data to develop and improve a website that is accessible and operable by the public;

Making adjustments to programming languages and tools as needed to add new features and applications to the Yelp website;

Providing maintenance of systems and bug fixing of software and/or systems;

Serving as a knowledge resource for software and/or systems;

Communicating with engineering team to determine technical requirements and disseminating information regarding project status to infrastructure, operations and product teams; and,

Participating in discussions surrounding future applications and/or systems regarding their appropriateness of solution.

Minimum Requirements: A Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or foreign equivalent) and 6 months of experience in the job offered, or as a Customer Solution Engineer (Intern), Technical Consultant, or a related occupation.

In the alternative, we will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or foreign equivalent) and five (5) years of experience in the job offered, or as a Customer Solution Engineer (Intern), Technical Consultant, or a related occupation.

About Yelp

The company was founded by Russel Simmons and Jeremy Stoppelman, with backing from PayPal co-founder Max Levchin. Yelp is headquarted in San Francisco, CA. Yelp was recently featured as one of Business Week's Best of the New Web Editors' Picks.
