As a Staff Systems Administrator on the Neustar Web Operations team, your duties will encompass a wide range of responsibilities that are critical to the success of our company. You will maintain our global network of Linux and Windows servers, and our cloud computing infrastructure, while at the same time looking to improve our processes and enhance our operational efficiency. We are looking for someone who has experience managing a distributed network of heterogeneous servers and is proficient with the operations of always-on web applications. You must be very technical but also be able to effectively work in a highly collaborative team oriented environment. You should enjoy troubleshooting difficult (but interesting) problems, and helping to create a great experience for our customers!
Systems administration - deploy, maintain and troubleshoot Linux/Unix and Windows servers (physical and virtual) running mostly a LAMP or WAMP architecture Work with hosting partners to maintain and improve stability of our worldwide network of monitoring servers Partner with product and engineering teams to develop, implement and manage cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Rackspace and others) Collaborate with other IT teams to support and maintain core application infrastructure hosted in Neustar data centers and colos Proactively monitor our network and our core infrastructure to diagnose and resolve issues before they become customer impacting Automate processes using shell scripts, batch scripts, and/or configuration management tools (such as Puppet or Chef) Document operational processes and submit defects/feature improvements for applications and infrastructure Suggest infrastructure design changes for improved availability, performance and/or reduced cost Perform systems and network troubleshooting using metrics and tools such as top, vmstat, DNS, tcpdump, traceroute, Nagios and Splunk Act as an application operations technical resource for customer experience teams 24x7x365 operational environment will require rotating on-call duties
3-5 years of IT operations experience Bachelor's degree, preferred field of study: Computer Science, or related experience Must have excellent interpersonal and communications skills Must have the ability to react quickly and effectively to network/server/application problems Must have the ability to work well with other departments Must be able to document and share information Must possess a methodical and disciplined approach to problem solving Proficiency with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (or equivalent) systems administration Experience with server virtualization technologies including VMware, Xen and/or KVM Experience working with infrastructure hosted in lights-out data centers, colos or with cloud computing providers Familiarity with a highly-available database infrastructure (Oracle, MySQL and/or MongoDB) Familiarity with at least one scripting language (Perl, PHP, Batch, Bash, or similar) Familiarity with web operations, preferably supporting a 24x7x365 SaaS application Familiarity with ITIL-based processes, including change and problem management Familiarity with Windows Server administration Knowledge of Internet protocols and their typical implementations Knowledge of website and/or web application performance and availability monitoring preferred College degree or technical certification(s) in computer hardware or software preferred Experience with MS Office suite Must be able to lift 40lbs for occasional server rack and stack Must be willing to be part of an on-call rotation
