We have an outstanding opportunity for a Systems Administrator. Responsibilities include:
SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN
â¢ Gather, understand and document requirements. Define appropriate technical and design requirements from functional requirements.
â¢ Provide sufficient information to procure necessary components.
â¢ Leverage existing technologies, standards and best practices. Adhere to architectural standards.
â¢ Produce prototype and/or conduct proof-of-concept if appropriate. Gather and process feedback.
â¢ Design and document suitable unit, application and integration testing scenarios for system. Coordinate and perform testing. Manage issues discovered via testing.
â¢ Design suitable testing, development and/or sandbox environments.
â¢ Provide supportable solutions.
BUILD, CONFIGURE AND UPDATE SYSTEMS
â¢ Perform new system placement as assigned using standard system build processes.
â¢ Lead the requirements gathering, development, and testing of new systems.
â¢ Configure systems to adhere to enterprise, departmental standards.
â¢ Create new environments for testing and development.
â¢ Follow IT Services standards for making changes in production environments. This includes, but is not limited to, conducting a production readiness review, following change control processes, participating in a security review and communicating with stakeholders and affected users.
â¢ Lead initiative to upgrade server hardware and software
â¢ Provide technical leadership supporting the School of Dentistryâs business continuity planning
PROACTIVELY MONITOR AND MAINTAIN SYSTEMS
â¢ Lead the installation, monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing all firewalls, network hardware, software, as well as administration databases with respect its schema, data integrity, performance, accessibility, availability, security, and configuration.
â¢ Ensure high availability by developing and using tools to identify problems or opportunities for improvement.
â¢ Regularly collect and trend performance data. Analyze and configure system for optimal performance.
â¢ Keep system up to date with appropriate patches, firmware and other fixes. Schedule necessary maintenance for system, plan for downtime if applicable.
â¢ Regularly monitor system health and performance. Actively check appropriate logs. Proactively correct problems or anticipated issues to ensure system's availability and integrity.
â¢ Maintain appropriate security access and protection, in compliant with existing security policies and best practices.
â¢ Refresh/recreate test, development and sandbox environments as required.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITIES
â¢ Lead technical element of o365 migration
â¢ Participates in multiple projects simultaneously.
â¢ Document issues and risks as required by project management or defined processes.
â¢ Apply system analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine server hardware, system functional specifications and problem determination and troubleshooting.
â¢ Perform assigned tasks satisfactorily. Provide high quality deliverables.
â¢ Identify technical requirements, develop functional specifications.
â¢ Attend project team meetings as required.
â¢ Report progress regularly to appropriate project teams.
â¢ Support project conversion and go-live activities.
â¢ Engage operational teams early in project. Ensure appropriate transition to operational support.
â¢ Lead technical operational projects as needed.
ASSIST WITH THE CREATION AND MAINTAINANCE OF SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION
â¢ Support the creation and update system architecture diagram(s).
â¢ Assist with creating and updating standard operational procedures for assigned systems.
â¢ Support the documentation of the system configuration as built.
â¢ Update system inventory after any changes. Maintain up to date configuration documents.
â¢ Assist in producing standard operational documentation for support.
â¢ Document changes in a system change log. Communicate updates to appropriate support staff.
â¢ Document clearly, concisely and grammatically correct. Keep documentation appropriate for intended audience. Use diagrams where appropriate.
â¢ Place documents in appropriate repositories. Communicate updates to team. Use suitable naming convention with date and version included in name.
LIAISON WITH VENDORS AND OTHER IT SUPPORT TEAMS AND END USERS
â¢ Works with vendors on the installation of system upgrades and enhancements
â¢ .Assist in resolution of application problems and troubleshooting.
â¢ Work closely with the School of Dentistry Help Desk to provide efficient and responsive support to end user staff.
â¢ Provide general assistance for end users. Provide excellent customer service to all customers.
RESOLVE INCIDENTS AND PROBLEMS EFFECTIVELY
â¢ React to incidents and problems within standard service levels. Take ownership of problems. Coordinate resources, including vendors, to assist in timely resolution.
â¢ Work with affected users to understand and document relevant symptoms.
â¢ Work with vendor and other technical staff to determine root cause. Recommend and execute best solution or workaround.
â¢ Participate and/or lead the incident conference call if applicable.
â¢ Regularly provide updates to affected customers, affected support staff and management as directed.
â¢ Provide up to date documentation in the appropriate system for incident and/or problem handling.
â¢ Communicate system outages timely and accurately.
â¢ Manage all issues to satisfactory resolution.
â¢ Other duties, as assigned by the Manager, including but not limited to the following:
o Act as backup for other team members' responsibilities such as on-call, as needed.
o Provide ad-hoc documentation or research as requested.
o Provide updates as requested.
o Assist with standards development and quality improvement.
o Assists with administrative duties such as attending conference calls, equipment tagging and surplus, and storage room clean up, as needed.
o Attend team meetings regularly.
o Cross-train with staff as appropriate.
o Abide by appropriate policies.
â¢ Bachelorâs Degree in computer science or related degree.
â¢ Experience (7+ years) in information technology.
â¢ Progressive (3+ years) technical experience in systems administration, troubleshooting, maintenance-related programming, and production support.
â¢ Progressive (3+ years) technical experience in designing, implementing and supporting critical, high-availability systems.
â¢ Progressive (2+ years) of experience participating in or leading IT projects.
â¢ Experience (2+ years) with large scale, complex systems.
â¢ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

UW Medicine operates in a multifaceted and dynamic environment which is subject to intricate legal and regulatory requirements governing clinical, teaching and research activities. In recent years, academic health centers across the nation have seen a dramatic increase in the number and complexity of regulations from state and federal agencies, greater external scrutiny and progressively costly sanctions.
In response to the complicated compliance environment, all components of UW Medicine have established compliance offices (including the practice plans, University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, Hall Health Primary Care Center, UW Medicine Eastside Specialty Center, UW Medicine Neighborhood Clinics, and the School of Medicine).
