Frequently Asked Questions

What is a career network?

A career network is a website that’s been created specifically for students and alumni at particular academic departments, student organizations on campus, or for professional organizations. Career networks often contain exclusive job opportunities, announcements and events for the members of that network.

Examples of career networks: Stanford University’s Management Science & Engineering Department, University of Michigan’s School of Nursing, MIT’s Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.

How will our students benefit from having a career network added to our web site?

By adding a career network to your homepage, your students will have access to thousands of entry-level jobs and internships from employers who are specifically looking to recruit your students.

How will jobs appear on my career network?

Employers who post jobs on http://www.aftercollege.com/ will have the option to forward relevant listings to your career network. Employers can visit your site directly and post jobs exclusively to your students’ attention. AfterCollege also provides tools available so administrators in the department and employers you currently work with can post opportunities to your own career network.

What if my campus has a career center already?

Because the career network is made specifically for your department and contains jobs only for your students’ majors, it works as a complement to the career resources that your students are already using. Where a career center provides opportunities to the entire campus, AfterCollege provides information specifically to your students.

How much does your service cost my organization?

Our services are free for academic departments, student organizations, and students.

What is the Alumni section for?

When students register on your career network, they have the ability to keep their accounts and stay connected to your organization as alumni. This will allow them to come back to the career network to find jobs even after they have graduated, to post any opportunities they have heard of and also to network with current students in a mentoring capacity.  The Alumni Directory is also very helpful in the accreditation process.

Is there a time commitment involved?

It depends on how deeply you would like to engage with the tools we provide for you. If you decide at any point to discontinue use of the career network, simply have your webmaster remove the link and have written notice posted to AfterCollege.

If your services are free, how does AfterCollege benefit?

AfterCollege generates revenue by selling job postings to employers on http://www.aftercollege.com/ and on participating academic departments’ and student organizations’ career networks.

Why do I need to establish an employer account?

What about student confidentiality?

AfterCollege does not sell any student information. Students choose when to release their contact information and resume when applying to specific jobs on your career network, putting them completely in the driver’s seat when it comes to their job search.
