Kid drummers and college recruiters
Remember those old SAT similes that would drive you crazy? You’d get one that made complete sense, then one that made you feel like someone was playing a joke on you?
1) CAT is to DOG…as APPLE is to ________?
2) SPACE COWBOY is to FORK…as PAPER MACHE is to ________?
Well I saw this YouTube clip and it blew my mind. It reminded me of those similes for some reason.
Looking Back at 2009 and Looking Forward to 2010
We made it through 2009, the toughest year since the great depression and one where college recruiting fell by over 50%. AfterCollege came out of 2009 with a few battle scars with many of our clients reducing their recruiting budgets during 2009 and even worse, a number of our client colleagues lost their jobs. But we also came out of 2009 with some lessons learned, a good foundation, a great team, and top positioning in our space. Most importantly, we realized how loyal our clients are and we saw the number of employers using AfterCollege grow. For this, my team and I thank you.
Top Recruiter Pet Peeves
A good recruiter works diligently each day to maintain an excellent rapport with both client and candidate. Their schedules are packed with interviewing, sourcing for candidates, meetings, or working with Human Resource reps to align their clients’ business goals with talent acquisition strategies. Since the recession began, recruiters have been literally swamped with resumes. Because of their busy schedules and the stacks of resumes they must pore over daily, they have little tolerance for errors. Here are some of their top pet peeves and ways to avoid getting tossed onto the reject pile.
8 Ways to Stay Motivated In Your Job Search
You’ve combed the Internet daily for job leads, tapping into every available resource in your job search arsenal. You’ve exhausted all networks and referrals. You’ve crafted hundreds of cover letters, changed your resume a dozen times to appease the recruiter, and driven all over town for interviews that seemed promising at first, but then you got the dreaded phone call or email: I’m sorry, we’ve decided to pursue other candidates…
Eight of the Coolest Seasonal Jobs
Even though the recession slightly dampened holiday spending, it hasn’t usurped the generous spirit of giving. Many companies are ramping up their hiring efforts to prepare for throngs of bargain-hungry shoppers. If you’re looking for a fun holiday job this year, you’ll probably find a lot of openings for cashiers, customer service reps, stockers, truck drivers, gift wrappers, and department store clerks. But if you want a job that’s off the beaten path, we’ve found some awesome lesser-known gigs. If you come across an opening, apply quickly. You may soon find yourself wearing bright red stockings and pointy elf clogs!

Manage Your Candidate Brand on AfterCollege
“But I’m only a Junior. There aren’t any jobs out there anyway. Why do I need to think about this now?”
The economy is turning around, slowly but surely. Whether you’re a sophomore or a senior, recruiters are looking at the candidate pool- they’re not just waiting and watching either. They’re investing in their Employer Brand, preparing for economic up-tic. In much the same way that pro baseball scouts pay attention to high school talent, recruiters (and their “alumni champions”) are paying attention to college sophomores and juniors, developing a pipeline of viable candidates for the eventual recovery.
