September 28, 2009
Research combines job listings, unemployment data, salary averages and apartment rates to provide a glimpse of the most favorable metro areas for physical therapists
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – September 29th, 2009 – AfterCollege today announced its top 25 metro areas for physical therapists to begin their careers. The list was compiled by looking at entry-level jobs on AfterCollege as well as jobs from over 75 media companies and newspapers that partner with AfterCollege. JustJobs.com, a top job aggregator and job search engine, provided a comprehensive database of jobs from across the country. Salary.com, a leading source of salary data, provided data on average entry-level salaries for physical therapists. Apartments.com, a premiere online rental resource representing millions of apartments from across the country, provided average rent prices for one-bedroom apartments in each city. AfterCollege also looked at the Bureau of Labor Statistics for unemployment data for each area. The result is a guide to help college graduates who are looking to begin their careers in physical therapy.
The list of top 25 metro areas for entry-level physical therapists includes:

The top metro areas for physical therapists comprise the second in a series of lists targeted to specific disciplines that have high employer demand. “Staying true to our discipline-specific approach, we wanted to provide meaningful data that will help graduates identify opportunities that are relevant to their field of study,” said Roberto Angulo, CEO of AfterCollege. “A general list of cities for college graduates is useful, but multiple lists that are relevant to students’ majors are even more useful.” Earlier this month, AfterCollege published a list of the top metro areas for entry-level electrical engineers. The company plans to publish additional lists in the coming months.
