Overview
As one of the largest providers of health care services in Marin/Sonoma Counties, Kaiser Permanente has played a significant role in delivering health care throughout the community. The San Rafael Medical Center consists of a 120 - bed hospital, and six Medical office buildings, comprising the complex at 99 Montecillo Road and the surrounding area. The medical center has more than 225 physicians and over 1,818 total support staff providing care to over 110,746 health plan members throughout Marin.

Key Highlights
Our medical center successfully integrates cultural competence into its local health care delivery system. We provide health care that is sensitive to the health beliefs and behavior, epidemiology and treatment of different population groups. San Rafael Medical Center delivers health care to Marin County along with the below listed highlights:
Trauma and Emergency Services
Is an Emergency Department Approved for Trauma, EDAT and has been designated to provide trauma care since January 2001.
Has served as the Base Station for the San Rafael Fire Department since 1980 and the Corte Madera Fire Department since 1998. Vicki Martinez, MD, Emergency Department, serves as the Medical Director for both fire departments and provides paramedic medical oversight at no charge.
Donated four Automatic External Defibrillators to the City of San Rafael for placement in City Hall and the San Rafael, Terra Linda, and Pickle weed Community Centers. Kaiser San Rafael serves as the Medical Director for the AED program at no charge.
Community Benefit
Provides significant financial and in-kind services to the Marin Community Clinic, including more than 500 free surgical patient referrals since 2002.
Is providing medical office space to the San Rafael Rota care Free Clinic two nights a week in the Downtown Medical Office Building on Third and E Streets at no charge. Several Kaiser Permanente physicians and staff volunteer their services at the Clinic.
Is investing in workforce development and contributed $20,000 for a simulation lab at the College of Marin to train health care students, as well as community emergency medical technicians and paramedics.
Employment
Continues to attract, hire and retain outstanding physicians. In the last two years, the Medical Center has hired 69 new doctors.
Encourages employees to utilize alternative modes of transportation to work -through commuter fairs, carpooling, and shuttle bus service from offsite parking - to reduce neighborhood traffic and parking use.
Is committed to helping employees make healthier lifestyle choices through the Employee Wellness Program that offers employee health risk appraisals, nutrition and exercise classes, and one-to-one sessions with health educators.
